Assessments for Individuals

Each assessment is thoughtfully tailored to meet the unique needs of each client following a comprehensive consultation. The descriptions provided here serve as a general overview of each assessment type for informational purposes, ensuring you have a clear understanding of what to expect. Your specific requirements will always guide our approach, ensuring a personalised experience.

Cognitive-Scholastic (Educational) Assessments

For ages 6-17, a comprehensive assessment of a learner’s cognitive abilities (aptitudes and/or IQ), such as reasoning abilities, language development and comprehension, memory, processing speed, perception, problem-solving, numerical ability, and concentration and attention, alongside their academic achievement levels in areas like reading, writing, spelling, and mathematics.

These assessments help identify a learner’s strengths and areas of difficulty, providing insight into how they learn best. They are particularly valuable when there are concerns about underperformance, possible learning difficulties, or when a child is excelling and may need enrichment (giftedness).

What it provides:

  • A detailed understanding of the child’s intellectual and academic profile

  • Identification of learning barriers or potential learning difficulties

  • Recommendations for support strategies for home and school, interventions, and referrals if needed

What the service entails:
The assessment typically involves one-on-one testing with standardised tools, gathering background information from parents and teachers, and providing a comprehensive written report with feedback and recommendations. Assessments are only available in-person.

2

Concessions or Accommodations Testing

An assessment to determine whether a learner qualifies for exam or classroom accommodations or concessions (such as extra time, a reader, a scribe, spelling concessions, or use of assistive devices).

Some learners with learning difficulties, processing challenges, or physical barriers may underperform in exams despite having the necessary knowledge. Accommodations level the playing field, ensuring that assessments reflect true ability rather than being limited by barriers.

What it provides:

  • Objective evidence of a learner’s needs and abilities

  • Clear recommendations regarding the most appropriate accommodations

  • Supporting documentation for applications to schools, exam boards, or education departments

What the service entails:
The process includes one-on-one standardised testing, review of academic history, and completion of necessary forms. Parents receive a report that can be submitted to the school or relevant educational authorities for concession applications. Assessment is available in-person only.

3

Subject Choice Guidance

A focused assessment to help learners in Grade 9 (or similar stages) choose subjects that align with their abilities, interests, personality, and future study or career goals.

Subject choice can have a lasting impact on career and study opportunities. Learners often feel uncertain about which subjects to take, and this assessment provides clarity by linking interests, strengths, and aspirations.

What it provides:

  • Insight into personality, aptitude, and interests

  • Alignment of subjects with potential career pathways

  • Confidence in making informed decisions about subject selection

What the service entails:
Learners complete assessments measuring aptitude, interests, and personality followed by a feedback session that explores realistic subject combinations and future implications. A written report with clear recommendations is provided. Testing can be done individually or in a group setting. Group rates available for schools. Assessments are available in-person and online.

4

Career Guidance

An in-depth assessment designed to guide adolescents, young adults, career changers, those retrenched, or those looking to further their studies in choosing a suitable career path based on their unique profile of abilities, interests, values, and personality.

Many people feel overwhelmed by career choices and worry about “choosing wrong.” This assessment reduces uncertainty by providing a structured, evidence-based framework for realistic career decision-making given your particular life context at present. Psychometric testing is also good practice for entry into many corporate jobs that now require it prior to employment.

What it provides:

  • Clarity on personal strengths, preferences, interests, and values

  • Information about suitable career fields and study options

  • A roadmap for informed career or study planning

What the service entails:
This service is available to grade 11 and 12 learners, as well as adults looking to make a career change. Grade 10 learners will in, as far as possible, only be assessed if they wish to make changes in the subject choices they have already made (a specific battery of tests may then be applied.) As learners are getting used to a specific set of subjects, career advice will only be narrowed down to broad fields of interest as many factors could still influence their career path.

The process includes psychometric testing (aptitude, interest, personality, and values assessments), an in-depth feedback discussion, and a written report with tailored career recommendations and guidance on next steps. Testing can be done individually or in a group setting. Group rates available for schools. Assessments are available in-person and online.

5

School Readiness Assessments

An evaluation of a child’s preparedness for formal schooling, typically conducted before Grade 1. It looks at cognitive, motor, emotional, language, and social development.

School readiness isn’t only about age — children need a combination of cognitive, emotional, and physical skills to cope with the demands of formal education. Early identification of challenges allows for intervention before school entry, giving children the best chance to succeed.

What it provides:

  • A holistic view of a child’s developmental readiness for school

  • Identification of areas needing support or further stimulation

  • Practical recommendations for parents and teachers to ensure a smooth transition to Grade 1

What the service entails:
The assessment includes standardised testing, structured tasks, and some play-based activities. A detailed report and feedback session highlight strengths, areas of concern, and readiness for formal schooling. Testing can be done individually or in a group setting. Group rates available for schools. Assessments are available in-person only.

Aptitude or IQ Assessment Only

Cognitive assessments provide a scientific lens through which we can view how you process information, solve problems, and adapt to new challenges. In the field of psychometry, cognitive ability—often referred to as general intelligence or 'g'—is widely recognised as one of the most accurate predictors of performance, whether in academic settings, professional environments, or complex decision-making roles.

By identifying your unique cognitive strengths and areas for development, you gain actionable insights that can be used to optimise your learning, refine your career path, and enhance your overall effectiveness.

While assessment scores are powerful indicators, they do not exist in a vacuum. A score in isolation is simply a data point. To be meaningful, psychometric results must be viewed within the context of your lived experience, your history, and your specific goals.

We take an ethical, evidence-based approach to all assessments. This means we move beyond just "testing" to focus on interpretation.

Before we begin any testing, we will hold a consultation session to discuss your history and the specific reason for seeking an assessment. By understanding your unique context, we can select the most appropriate battery of tests to answer the specific questions you have, ensuring that the results are relevant, valid, and useful.

Why Seek a Cognitive Assessment?

  • Academic Guidance: Understanding how you learn best to choose subjects or study methods that play to your strengths.

  • Professional Development: Identifying potential aptitude gaps or strengths to guide career moves and professional training.

  • Self-Discovery: Gaining an objective understanding of your cognitive profile to foster confidence and personal growth.
